The complexities of dental insurance and the lack of sufficient information provided by insurance companies make understanding benefits almost impossible.  Even more confusing is understanding how to properly work with your dental insurance company to achieve the highest level of benefits to which you are entitled. As Wynkoop Dental patients, we want you to be informed, and we have insurance experts to help you navigate through this process as best we can! 

What Is Dental Insurance?

Dental insurance is a contract between your employer (or yourself) and a dental insurance company. The benefits that you receive are based on the terms of the contract negotiated between your employer and the dental insurance company; dental practices have no control over your coverage options.

How Our Office Helps

We believe transparency of fees adds huge value to your dental experience and Wynkoop Dental will do everything possible to help you understand and make the most of your dental benefits. If we have updated insurance details prior to an appointment we will verify insurance, check remaining benefits, and attempt to contact you if there are any discrepancies.  Any treatment beyond preventative cleanings are always reviewed ahead of time and will include an estimate showing expected insurance benefits along with total out of pocket cost if insurance denies the claim. Finally, our experts make the effort to keep up to date with Insurance coverage amounts and update our software regularly (this is a huge undertaking) which allows us to give estimates as accurately as possible.   

Our office will complete and submit dental insurance forms as quickly as possible. We frequently send claim appeals to get you the insurance coverage that you’ve paid for. Please be aware that some dental insurance companies take longer than others to complete payment.  If necessary, our office will contest denials, send additional records and even letters from the doctors as to why treatment was necessary. There are some instances where the dental insurance company will request to have the patient call them directly to review the services. While we do our best to avoid this effort, there are times where insurance requires speaking with the patient directly.

Our efforts help to mitigate miscommunication and surprises surrounding your financial responsibilities.  Please understand that ultimately insurance companies exist to make money. They have loopholes and deliberately lack transparency.  The efforts we make are a courtesy to our patients and our way of helping you feel comfortable and confident at your dental home. When an insurance company doesn’t cover treatment, it is ultimately the patient’s responsibility. 

Our Philosophy

We believe in providing quality care in a kind and conservative manner using the best dental products and technology available.  We understand that insurance coverage is important to our patients, and we always recommend the treatment that is best for your oral health. We do not submit treatment recommendations based only on what an insurance company will cover. Instead, we provide treatment recommendations based on the years of training and experience we have with oral care. For patients that do not have dental insurance, we provide an affordable “Wynkoop Wellness Plan” that will ensure you can get the treatment needed.
