How Long Will My Dental Restoration Last?

One of the questions we hear frequently from our patients is “How long will my restoration last?” This is a great question, and in all honesty it’s a different answer for every patient. Our goal here at Wynkoop Dental is to place dental crowns and fillings that you’ll be able to trust and rely on for years to come. We do this by using the highest quality materials available and giving great attention to detail when delivering your restoration. The longevity of your dental work however, lies a lot on you.

Excellent Home Care

The better your home care routine is, the healthier your mouth will be, and the longer your restorations will last. Believe it or not, you can still get tooth decay around a dental crown or filling. This is because there is still natural tooth structure remaining, so brushing and flossing is your first line of defense against decay that can break down your restorations.

Routine Dental Visits

Visiting our office regularly for cleanings and checkups will also ensure the longevity of your crowns or fillings, as well as your oral health. We screen for issues such as oral cancer, gum disease, and tooth decay at every checkup appointment to ensure that we detect these conditions as early as possible.

Our hygienists take the time to remove the excessive plaque buildup that causes tooth decay and gum disease, and yearly x-rays will also help us to monitor the health of your teeth, mouth, and your restorations. Your six-month visits are critical for not only maintaining your healthy smile, but also optimum oral health.

Our Commitment to You

Our doctors are committed to excellence here at Wynkoop Dental, and we pride ourselves on delivering high quality dentistry that provides our patients with both aesthetics and function. If ever a restoration is not holding up however, we’ll make it right for you.

We stand by our work, and for example, if you had a crown that breaks within the first three years, we’re happy to replace it at no charge if it was not new decay that caused the problem. Composite fillings are very durable, however if you happen to have one that breaks or becomes debonded early on, we’re also happy to replace that for you. We will go over our warranties and policies with you when we review your treatment plan.

We’re here to be your partners in optimum oral health, and when we work with you as a team, you’ll be able to enjoy your restorations and your beautiful smile for many years.
